INDIVIDUAL LIGHTNING TOURNAMENT - 21ST MAY 2019

COMPETITION CONTROLLER'S REPORT

This year's individual lightning tournament held at Bradford's Latvian Club was well attended with 26 entrants played over 6 rounds. It was won by Bradford's Andy Bak who swept all opposition aside with a very impressive 100% as well as helping to organise the tournament. Not saying that he had a home advantage or changed some of his results or anything like that, just a total coincidence. Just kidding Andy, an amazing performance.

Last year's defending champion, Matthew Parsons, finished with 4 points, along with Nick Sykes, Mike Bramson and Karim Khan with Mike Bramson claiming 3rd place on the tie-break rule. Peter Shaw, always a contender, went one better, gaining 5 points and remaining unbeaten but getting two draws, to edge into 2 place. Grading prizes went to Les Johnson (3½), Simon Jones (3) and Nick Waite (3)

Thanks to all who attended and making this fun event, well, fun.

THE KEITH TROBRIDGE RAPIDPLAY TOURNAMENT - 8TH JANUARY 2019

COMPETITION CONTROLLER'S REPORT

There was a healthy turnout for this event with twenty six entries. The event consisted of six rounds, each played with ten minutes on the clock and no increment. Three players finished the event on 5/6: Paul Solomons, Phil Watson and Chris Wright. Paul claimed the overall victory calculated on the sum of progressive scores, having won his first five games.

The grading prizes were for:

Ungraded - Nick Waite (Bingley) [3/6]

Under 100 - John Parr (Shipley) [3/6]

Under 125 - Paul Kadzionis (Undercliffe) [3.5/6]

Under 170 - Mike Bramson (Undercliffe) [4.5/6]

Andrew Morris, one of Bingley's new recruits won the "Strong Man" prize for managing to prop the rest of the players up. The biggest upset of the competition was caused by Wil Lilburn-Quick as he claimed the scalp of his much stronger opponent whose name will be kept secret to spare his blushes (won't we Andy!).

Thanks to John Parr, Paul Greenwood and Alex Leggatt for setting up, and to Andy Bak for supplying the clocks and assisting with the organisation.

TEAM LIGHTNING EVENT - 18TH DECEMBER 2018

COMPETITION CONTROLLER'S REPORT

Due to a very poor turnout for the team lightning, the event was contested between four teams as a four board affair with every team playing each other team twice. The event was eventually won by South Bradford, who entered into the final round just ahead of Bradford and managed to win, retaining their crown from last season. The other teams consisted of players from Bradford, Undercliffe, South Bradford and a scattering of players from across other clubs. Hopefully, next year will see a much healthier attendance.
